This is a standard high school level algebra 2 course, taught in a way that helps regular non-mathy (or math-resistant) students get a solid foundation in algebra 2. Algebra 1 topics are thoroughly reviewed (because most students have completely forgotten their algebra 1), and then built upon with new material from algebra 2. Video lessons are clearly taught in a brain-friendly way where students follow along with guided notes. All notes and assignments are bound in one book so they don’t get lost, and students can easily flip back and review previously learned material as needed (because students easily forget concepts in algebra 2). Lots of review is built into the course, and effective learning strategies and study habits are directly taught in the course as well, to build back math confidence and give students the learning tools they need to be successful in any math course going forward.
This course covers all of the topics needed for standardized tests (such as the SAT and ACT), as well as the topics needed to move on to any math class beyond algebra 2.
The goal is to give students a solid algebra 2 foundation, setting them up for success in future math classes, such as trigonometry, pre-calculus, college algebra, statistics, or consumer math, as well as helping students reduce math anxiety and build confidence in their math ability.
Algebra 2 Course Includes:
1-year access to our comprehensive Algebra 2 teaching videos. These are short, to-the-point instructional videos covering all essential Algebra 2 topics. The course also includes access to the Solutions Library where every homework and test problem is worked out and explained on video.
Student Textbook & Solutions Manual
Our spiral bound student textbook is consumable, which allows students to easily follow along, take notes, and work problems exactly as they see them in the video lessons. This avoids the frustration of copy errors and makes handling and reading easier. The spiral bound solutions manual works out every single homework problem in detail so both students and parents can check work and accurately assess progress.
Chapter Tests & Solutions
This packet contains two versions of tests for each chapter (forms A and B), allowing a student to re-test if he or she needs further practice on concepts. The corresponding solutions manual works out each problem for each version of the test in detail and each chapter test includes a detailed Grading Guide. The 3-hole punch packet format allows parents, tutors, or teachers to easily disperse individual test forms as needed and accurately check work afterward.
The parent guide provides parents with all the information they need to successfully guide their student through Algebra 2, whether the student needs the parent to be fully hands on, mostly hands off, or somewhere in between. It provides a pacing guide and a detailed grading guide for each chapter test.
If your student has completed Algebra 1, he or she is ready for Algebra 2. Even if algebra didn't go very well or your student has forgotten some algebra skills, this course has heavy review layered throughout that will set students up for success learning Algebra 2.
Should my student take Geometry before Algebra 2?
Geometry is not a necessary prerequisite for our Algebra 2 course. As a general rule, we recommend that students take geometry before algebra 2 to give them another year of math maturity before diving into the tougher concepts presented in algebra 2. However, if students do not follow this sequence for whatever reason, they will still be fine taking Algebra 2.
Will this course prepare my student for the ACT or SAT?
Yes! This course is a full standard level algebra 2 course, presented and taught in a brain-friendly way for the non-mathy student, math-resistant student, or the student who just isn’t a huge fan of math. While the ACT is a little more math-heavy than the SAT, both tests cover concepts from math up to and including algebra 2 (but not beyond). While this course absolutely covers all the topics needed, it is always encouraged to have students do some extra prep for these tests to get used to the language and style of questions found on these exams.
Is this a college prep course?
Yes! Algebra 2 is a full standard-level course intended to provide the student with all the skills needed to move on to the next level of study, whether it is trigonometry, pre-calculus, statistics, consumer math, or even college algebra. Not only are algebra 2 concepts taught, but also specific math learning techniques and habits that will help students to be successful in all math classes going forward. This course is not just designed to help a “non-mathy” student finish high school math requirements strong and graduate, but also to give students the skills and confidence they need to go on to the next level of study if they so choose.
Is this course completely stand-alone?
Yes. This course is designed to take a student (even one who typically struggles with math) through an entire algebra 2 course without the need for a tutor or additional instructor. All assignment, practice test, and test solutions are worked out and explained on video. This can act as "on-demand tutoring" should a student get stuck with a particular concept and need some extra help.
